GM diet plan - General Motors Diet

The GM diet means as general motor employees diet plan it is a 7-Day diet plan for quick weight loss. The employees consumed low-calorie food groups on different days. This is believed to have triggered the weight loss.

The GM diet, also known as the General Motors diet, is a plan that promises to help you lose weight.
It was created in 1985 by General Motors to help its employees lose weight.

The employees consumed low-calorie food groups on different days. By the end of the first week, the employees lost up to 7.7 kg.

Each day of the GM diet permits you to eat different foods or food groups. Proponents of the diet claim this technique stimulates weight loss and helps burn fat faster than other diets.

What Is the GM Diet?

GM diet is a weight loss management plan developed by the General Motors Corporation to help keep their employees stay in shape. This diet system involves the consumption of specific foods per day, in contrast to weekly schedules like that of Atkins and South Beach diets.

What started as an in-house program for individuals within the General Motors Corporation today has become a worldwide phenomenon. The GM diet plan has grown to be a popular diet plan over time has caught on and today has become very popular with people looking for a diet plan that works.

It can help you detoxify, burn more fat, improve your digestion and lose up to 15 pounds (6.8 kg) in one week. The GM diet plan is broken up into seven days, each with strict rules about which food groups you can consume.

For example, your diet on day two is limited to only vegetables, while on day five you're instructed to eat several whole tomatoes and large portions of meat or protein food. Going on a very low-calorie diet might work for weight loss.

It Is Low In Calories:

Weight loss is calculated by the number of calories you consume and the number of calories you burn. When you consume fewer calories, your body shifts to a negative energy balance. This makes you lose weight.

It Boosts Metabolism:

The foods included in this diet plan are believed to boost your metabolism and keep your body in the fat-burning mode. However, there is no study that backs this claim.

It Includes Negative Calorie Foods:

Negative calorie foods burn calories during their digestion and processing. This means you lose weight by burning calories even when you eat.  It sounds good, but dietitians and nutritionists do not believe in the term “negative calorie foods“.

It Is A Good Detox:

Consuming healthy food and staying hydrated may help flush out toxins.

Improve Digestion:

The fruits and vegetables in the GM diet contain dietary fiber, which helps improve bowel movement and digestion. However, it is not established if the GM diet follows the recommended 25 g dietary fiber/day based on a 2000-calorie diet or not.

How to Prepare for the GM Diet ?

To those who are planning to follow the GM diet as their weight loss management regimen.
they should be able to withstand excess sweating, occasional feeling of hunger, and momentary
weakness. these are among the common side effects during the first days of the diet routine.

One way to prepare for the GM diet is by staying hydrated. That is, regular water intake should be observed, at 8-10 glasses each day. This is because once the body welcomes the effects of GM diet it would require extra water for energy and metabolism.

Those who instantly follow the diet system may suffer from incessant muscle pain and weakness, increased body heat, and malaise. All of these could only be regulated by adequate amounts of water in the body.

GM Diet Meal Plan Chart :

Avoiding alcohol intake should also be observed when preparing for the GM diet. This is because alcohol prevents the effects of the diet from taking place, and followers would only end up stumped with their current weight even after a week of weight loss management.

The main foods that the GM diet allows include fruits, vegetables, meat, and milk. The plan instructs people to eat a big breakfast, a moderately sized lunch, and a light dinner.

It also allows several snacks throughout the day. The diet involves a  "wonder soup" which is a tangy, low-calorie vegetable soup containing cabbage, tomatoes, celery, pepper, and carrots. People can eat wonder soup as a snack to curb hunger pangs until their next meal.

The GM diet consists of a 7-day meal plan. Each day focuses on a specific food or food group. the General Motors corporation developed and endorsed this diet plan to help its employees lose weight.

GM diet Exercise

The GM diet can take part in light forms of exercise, such as yoga, while dieting.
After day 3, they can add walking or other low-intensity cardio to their workouts.
On days 5 to 7, people can start adding strength training to their exercise regimen.

Does it actually work?

GM diet works because many of the foods included in the diet are low in calories, such as fruits and vegetables. This can help promote weight loss by creating a calorie deficit, which is when you consume fewer calories than you burn throughout the day.

The plan also states that many of the foods in the diet are "negative-calorie foods," meaning they provide fewer calories than they take to digest. List of all negative-calorie foods.

Many of the foods the diet recommends are also high in water. For this reason, proponents claim that the GM diet can enhance fat loss and help detoxify your body. Supporters also say you may repeat the diet multiple times to achieve your long-term weight goals, recommending a gap of 5–7 days between cycles.

Rule book of GM Diet

First of all beans are not allowed on the diet.
The diet claims they are high in calories and may cause weight gain.
Coffee and green tea are permitted, but only without sugar.
Soda, alcohol and other calorie-filled beverages are not allowed unless specified in the diet.
You may use cottage cheese to replace meat, and soy milk instead of regular milk.
After 1 week the GM diet advises you to consume a high-protein, low-carb diet to help maintain weight loss.

Encourages people to eat more fruit and vegetables, which are healthful, low-calorie foods
Does not allow added sugars or processed foods
Does not permit refined carbohydrates
Lowers people's daily calorie intake

Foods To Avoid

  • Soda
  • Fried food
  • Alcohol
  • Tea / Coffee
  • Junk food
  • Packaged/canned food

Day 1 to Day 7: What to eat?

There is a different rule for each day. The diet recommends you to drink 8-12 glasses of water every day. Exercising along with the diet for weight loss is optional, however, it’s not required.

The diet advises against exercising for the first three days. The foods included in the diet are negative calorie foods, which means they provide you with fewer calories than they take to digest.

Many foods recommended in the diet are high in water. Proponents of the diet say that you can repeat the diet multiple times to achieve your weight loss goals but there should be a gap of 5-7 days between two cycles.

Benefits of the GM Diet

First of all, the plan encourages an increased intake of fruits and vegetables, which has been shown to help promote weight loss. This is because fruits and vegetables are low in calories and can create a greater calorie deficit to increase weight loss.

In a 2015 study of more than 133,000 participants, people with the highest intake of fruits and non-starchy vegetables had the lowest risk of weight change over a four-year period. In addition, the diet limits some foods and beverages that cause weight gain.

The benefits of the GM diet are not backed by evidence, but certain scientific facts pertaining to the foods included in this diet hold true:
  • Lose up to 15 pounds (6.8 kg) in just one week
  • Get rid of toxins and impurities in your body
  • Improve your digestion
  • Enhance your body's ability to burn fat
  • Detoxification – Fruits and vegetables are loaded with antioxidants that help flush out toxins.
  • Improves Health – Veggies and fruits boost immunity and improve cell functions.
  • Prevents Weight Gain – Cutting back on sugar and sugary foods help prevent weight gain.

More fruits and vegetables

One health benefit of the GM diet is that fruits and vegetables are the primary foods. Fruits and vegetables suppress fat accumulation in the body because they are low in calories and high in fiber, which makes people feel fuller for longer.

Fewer added sugars

The GM diet does not allow added sugars in either foods or beverages, including alcohol. People in the United States generally eat and drink more sugar than is healthful. Research has identified links between diets high in added sugars and a range of health conditions, including obesity, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes.
  • Improved quality and appearance of the skin
  • Enhanced mood
  • Better digestion and metabolism
  • Detoxification
  • Curing irritable bowel syndrome and constipation

The diet claims to help you...

- Lose up to 7 kilos in a week
- Get rid of toxins and impurities in your body
- Improve your digestion
- Enhance your body’s ability to burn fat

GM diet plan chart : Day 1

GM Diet Meal Plan Chart :

The GM diet is divided into seven days, with different rules that apply to each day.

Each day of the GM diet has specific rules on which foods are permitted. Fruits, vegetables, meat and milk are the main foods allowed. It recommends that you drink 8–12 glasses of water each day to stay hydrated throughout the diet.

Although exercise is not required for weight loss on this diet, it is optional. However, the diet recommends against exercise during the first three days.It also allows followers to consume two to three bowls of "GM Wonder Soup" each day. It's made with cabbage, celery, tomatoes, onions and bell peppers.

Start the diet by consuming as many fruits as you wish to on the very first day. There are no specific instructions on when one should eat them. However, watermelons and muskmelons are highly recommended since they contain high amounts of fiber. You can also include apples, oranges and papaya in your diet.

Another important part of the diet would be to consume 8 to 12 glasses of water in the day. One must avoid starving at any point of the day. If you’re hungry at any time, feel free to eat some fruits and satisfy your hunger.

These fiber-rich and low-fat foods keep an individual full for longer, thereby reducing an individual’s calorie intake. The high water intake will also serve to flush out the toxins from the body and prepare it for the rest of the diet.

On day one, avoid any kind of vegetables completely. Among fruits, it is ideal to stay away from bananas. Day one should feel a little easier since the monotony of the food would be yet to kick in. Stick to the plan, and feel active and energetic.

Eat as many fruits as you like. Berries, watermelons, and cantaloupes are recommended. Stay away from bananas on Day 1. Drink 8 to 12 glasses of water during the day.

After following the diet for a week, it’s recommended to have a high protein, low carb diet to maintain the lost weight.

Day One

Eat only fruit — any kind except bananas.
No maximum amount of fruit is specified.
The diet especially encourages followers to eat melons to increase weight loss.

Breakfast:

1 bowl of mixed berries
A medium apple + a few berries + 1 glass of water

The first important meal of the day in a GM diet regimen is breakfast. Followers may observe a full breakfast consisting mainly of fruits such as melons and papaya together with 1-2 glasses of water. These fruits easily make the stomach full, and at the same time the sweet tooth satisfied, thus craving for more tempting meals such as pizza and pasta can be avoided.

Snack:

1 pear and½ cup cantaloupe + 1 glass of water

Lunch:

1 apple and 1 cup watermelon + 2 glasses of water

Lunch may consist of watery fruits such as apples or watermelons. Lunch time is observed at 12:00 noon to 1:30 in the afternoon. Consuming a bowl of apples or two cups of watermelons can already make the stomach full. Other fruits such as kiwi and mangoes can as well be served.

Snack:

1 bowl of watermelon
1 large orange + 1 glass of water
1 bowl of cantaloupe slices
½ cup watermelon + 2 glasses of water

While the main beverage allowed for the Day 1 of GM diet is water, followers may also turn to fresh orange juice and coconut water during midday snacks. Orange juice fills in the cravings for sweets, while coconut water keeps the stomach full the rest of the day.

Dinner:

1 orange and 1 cup cantaloupe and berries + 1 glass of water

During dinner, followers may return to melons, kiwi and oranges, as well as 1-2 glasses of water. Melons can be heavy on the stomach; hence only a half-bowl serving should be consumed in order not to have a cramped stomach later at night.

There are a few additional rules to this diet, such as avoiding beans, sweeteners and high-calorie beverages. You're also advised to follow a low-carb, high-protein diet after the GM plan.

Foods To Avoid – Day 1

  • Vegetables – All veggies
  • Fruits – Banana
  • Protein – Meat, eggs, fish, beans, lentils, and mushrooms.
  • Fats & Oils – Lard, butter, margarine, and safflower oil.
  • Carbs – Carb-rich foods, including brown rice.
  • Dairy – Full-fat milk, full-fat yogurt, frozen yogurt, ice cream, and cheese.
  • Beverages – Alcohol, soda, sweetened drinks, milkshakes, smoothies, packaged juices.

The second day of the GM Diet involves eating only vegetables. These veggies can be consumed, or can be cooked in order to make them palatable. Ensure that there is no oil involved in their preparation.

While eating potatoes deep fried, or even a packet of your favourite brand of chips may not be allowed, you can snack on vegetables at any time of the day if you’re hungry. If absolutely required, olive oil or butter can be used sparingly for flavour.

Vegetables contain all the nutrients that you need to sustain the body. You get the necessary carbs from potatoes, protein from peas, and carrots and beans are packed with fiber and all essential vitamins.

After a relatively low-carb day one, this will help restore the carbohydrate content in the body. In turn, this will further provide you with enough energy to keep the diet going. Unlike the first day, you must stay away from fruits altogether on day 2.

On the third day of the diet, one must stick to eating a combination of fruits and vegetables. These foods could be the same as that consumed in the first two days. The only foods that must be avoided are potatoes and bananas.

Halfway through the week, your body would have begun to adjust to the new diet. After a day of eating only vegetables, the fruits would be a welcome addition to it. The combination of fruits and vegetables also provides the body with the benefits of high fiber and protein.

You would also need to include 8 to 12 glasses of water in order to flush out all toxins from the body. You can also add the GM Diet Soup to your diet on the third day. In addition to replenishing your body, and giving the body all the nutrients it needs, this variety will also help satisfy your taste buds and break the monotony of the first two days. GM Diet Plan Chart : Day 4

GM Diet Meal Plan Chart :

Consume only bananas and milk. You can eat up to 6 large or 8 small bananas. Drink 3 glasses of milk, preferably skim. Eat bananas either whole or in a smoothie with milk and ice. No other fruits or vegetables are allowed, but people can also eat wonder soup.

Why banana is a superfood ?

- Only milk and banana is to be consumed
- You can eat up to 6 small or 8 large bananas
- You can have up to three glasses of skimmed milk

Day 4 Meal Plan

Breakfast

2 bananas + 1 glass of milk

The best way to start Day 4 is by consuming a banana paired with a glass of warm milk (almond milk or very lite coconut milk will be fine as well). Some followers prefer a bowl of sliced bananas on milk like those in breakfast cereals, only without the cereal content.

Skim milk should be used all day in this stage; full milk proves to be heavy on the stomach and filled with unnecessary nutrients that are not beneficial to the weight loss regimen.

Snack

1 banana + 1 glass of water or 1 glass of banana milkshake/smoothie

Lunch

Milkshake (2 bananas + 1 glass of milk + a dash of cocoa powder) or 1 bowl of vegetable soup
Lunch served in Day 4 consists of a bowl of vegetable soup. Most soup bowls consist of various vegetable produce flavored with herbs and spices.
Best vegetable soups that can be served during lunch include tomato soup and cabbage stew. They are packed with natural flavors that the taste buds would savor even as the day ends.

Evening Snack

2 bananas

Dinner

1 banana + 1 glass of milk
Dinner in Day 4 may consist of a serving of vegetable soup and banana shake. This can be quite heavy to handle later at night, so followers may forego the shake and focus on the soup, as this alone can keep them full until the next morning.

Foods To Avoid – Day 4

All, except for banana and milk.

Consume 8 (small) bananas and 4 glasses of milk (8 fluid ounces). Banana is a superfood that helps to replenish our energy levels. Choose skim milk and avoid adding sugar or sweeteners to milk. You may consume a bowl of clear vegetable soup if it gets too monotonous. Drink 8 to 12 glasses of water.

The bananas that were avoided over the first three days, can finally be consumed on the fourth day. One must consume 8 bananas over the course of the day. The consumption can be split across the day’s meal and snack times. In addition to that, one should also consume a big glass of milk each, at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. In case this becomes monotonous, a bowl of soup can be included in the diet.

Bananas are rich in pectin, and hence, they help in digestion. They also provide one’s body with the instant energy they need. They are also high in potassium, apart from being low in salt. Additionally, the milk one consumes on this day is also a great source of potassium and calcium. Thanks to being fortified with Vitamin D, the milk further helps strengthen bones.

On Day 4, one must completely avoid snacking on fruits other than bananas. Potatoes and sweet potatoes must be ignored as well. You could also substitute bananas and milk with fig and soy milk.

GM Diet Plan Chart : Day 5

GM Diet Meal Plan Chart :

Eat two 10-ounce (284-gram) portions of beef, chicken, or fish. In addition to the meat, you may only eat 6 whole tomatoes. Vegetarians may replace meat with either brown rice or cottage cheese.

Increase your water intake by two glasses to flush out extra uric acid. This is a chemical product of the breakdown of purines, which are found in meat.

- Eat two portions of 284 grams each of beef, chicken or fish
- You can also have 6 whole tomatoes
- If you are a vegetarian, replace meat with cottage cheese or brown rice
- Increase the water intake by 2 glasses to flush out the extra uric acid.

Another hamburger (no bread..!) may be eaten by dinner, although health experts recommend beef soup and tomatoes so that the body would feel more energized. The soup also supplements the water lost during the day.

Day 5 : Vegetarians meals

Breakfast

3 tomatoes + ½ cup sprouts + 2 glasses of water
Breakfast may start with braised beef and soup. This will keep the stomach heavy and full for most of the day. The soup provides energy, while the meat becomes a source of protein, iron, and fiber. It can be a bit boring to eat beef but it may be paired with sliced tomato.

Mid-morning

1 apple + 1 glass of water

Lunch

½ cup brown rice + sauteed assorted veggies/3 oz fish fillet + 2 glasses of water
A hamburger patty (no bread!!!) may be consumed during lunchtime together with tomatoes. The hamburger  (no bread!!!) may be baked or fried but not in too much fat, as it already contains its own fat material. Since the body will be producing extra uric acid, it is likewise recommended to drink extra glasses of water to flush the urine out naturally.

Evening Snack

2 tomatoes + 1 glass of water

Dinner

1 cup brown rice  + 1 tomato + ½ cup of sauteed veggies + 2 glasses of water
Another hamburger (no bread!!!) may be eaten by dinner, although health experts recommend beef soup and tomatoes so that the body would feel more energized. The soup also supplements the water lost during the day.

Foods To Avoid – Day 5

  • Vegetables – Potato and sweet potato.
  • Fruits – Banana
  • Protein – Beef, pork, and turkey.
  • Fats & Oils – Lard, butter, margarine, and safflower oil.
  • Carbs – White rice, bread, and processed foods.
  • Dairy – Full-fat milk, full-fat yogurt, frozen yogurt, ice cream, and cheese.
  • Beverages – Alcohol, soda, sweetened drinks, and packaged fruit juices.

Have brown rice. Consume 6 large tomatoes. Non-vegetarians can consume chicken breast or fish. Vegetarians can consume tofu or cottage cheese. Keep yourself hydrated with water and/or strained fruit juices (without sugar or sweeteners).

Day 5 — non-vegetarians meals

Eat 20 ounces (oz) of either beef, chicken, or fish. Vegetarians can replace meat with cottage cheese or brown rice.

  • breakfast: 5–6 oz serving of meat and 2 whole tomatoes
  • lunch: 7–8 oz serving of meat with 2 whole tomatoes
  • dinner: 5–6 oz serving of meat with 2 whole tomatoes
  • snacks: wonder soup or freshly pressed tomato juice
  • an additional 4 cups of water

vegetarians can opt to eat a bowl of brown rice, while non-vegetarians can consume a lean protein source like fish or chicken breast. In addition to that, one must also eat 6 large tomatoes.

While vegetarians can eat a bowl of brown rice for lunch, care must be taken to ensure that minimal oil is used for cooking. Combat the high amounts of uric acid that your body will be producing by drinking up to 15 glasses of water every day. Non-vegetarians can eat about 500 g of baked or lightly fried skinless chicken, along with the 6 tomatoes.

Brown rice is rich in fiber and helps with digestion. At the same time, chicken and fish are excellent sources of lean protein. Additionally, fish also has omega-3 fatty acids. The high fiber in tomatoes means they aid digestion too.

It is important to avoid potatoes and sweet potatoes among vegetables, and bananas among fruits that were recommended earlier in the week. One can also have a bowl of GM Diet Soup as part of the mid-morning or evening snack.
